I'm a first time builder, and i'm a bit apprehensive about this build, because i am not sure these will be compatible with each other. Suggestions are appreciated

Case: Phanteks enthoo luxe

CPU: Intel i5-4690k

Motherboard: MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97-G55 SLI

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2)

GPU: Gigabyte R9 270

HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7,200 RPM

SSD: Kingston Digital 120GB SSD

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 Series 600 Watt ATX Power Supply

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

You need a aftermarket cooler for a overclock able CPU, i would get a higher end card like the 280/280x/290.

If you do not want to OC then you do not need a K series CPU.

To start off, yes all the components are compatible and will work with each other just fine. But I do have a couple questions before I give some recommendations: are you planning to overclock? Do you wish to utilize Crossfire/SLI or two GPUs in tandem? What are your plans with the computer overall? Answering these questions will allow everyone here to give you better feedback and options. Thanks!

I'm going to be using this for moderate gaming, schoolwork, word processing, browsing internet. I do not really want to crossfire/SLI two GPUs, so no. If I don't overclock, can i get the i5-4690 and not buy the CPU cooler? I'm not experienced at all with overclocking.

Yes just get a non k CPU and stick with stock. If you do no not want to SLI/CFX the MSI Z97 PC mate only takes one card and has plenty of upgrade room. However, if you want the option for later on I would keep the SLI board.

This is what I would recommend out of the gate, better GPU, better quality PSU, and this eliminates the un-needed SLI motherboard. I hope this helps!

Yes, Z97 motherboards are build to be paired with the "K" series processors for overclocking. You will not find the OC features of Z97 on an H97 board. If you are buying an H97 motherboard, there is no reason to be purchasing a "K" series CPU.
