Hi I have been having a problem with my laptop/notebook thing for around 5 days now. Basically I'll be online doing whatever and the little exclamation mark will appear over the wireless signal symbol telling me I have limited access to my router, meaning I have actually lost connection. However, if I try to troubleshoot it the screen goes black and doesn't come back on forcing me to press the power button. This is the same for the network sharing centre. If I try to enable/disable the wireless (after connection changes to limited) the screen also goes black and can't do anything but restart. Once I restart the machine I can use the internet once again until it randomly happens again. It can be 10 minutes or even 10 hours later but it happens again. Please help if you have any ideas, I'm a noob!

Thanks, I followed your steps to the event viewer, it displays that I have shut down the laptop uncleanly 7 times since 7th November. This was due to the previously mentioned problem. I also see the following event has happened 11 times since 7th November too..

"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x78E4007A5435. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."

Do you think this is the problem? Thanks for your responses thus far.

Thanks, I did update the driver today but the problem still persisted. But I could try a full uninstallation and then reinstall as you suggested. Also I had another quick look at the event viewer and discovered another event that hadn't happened much until 7th November also, and has now happened 11 times since then, not sure if it's relevant though.

The only thing I did recently other than try updating drivers today, was updating Skype. I can't remember exactly when but I think it was about the same day as these problems.
Also with system restore I don't actually have any restore points apart from earlier today, back before I updated my driver.

This being a networking issue, and Skype being a networking application, and installed around the same time....that may be the first place I'd look.
I don't know anything specific with Skype that might cause this, but it's worth a look.

Ok thank you. Is there somewhere I can go to look into this? Or should I just remove Skype and go back to an older version of it and see what happens?
