USB Keyboard Disconnecting and Connecting Randomly

If I weren't already bald, I'd be pulling my hair out with this issue. I've been having an issue where my keyboard will disconnect briefly, and then start working again after a few seconds. During that time, the keyboard is completely non-responsive. If it disconnects during a key press, that continues to register until the keyboard reconnects.

I tried to isolate the issue to a specific keyboard or USB port, but no luck. I have tried four different keyboards (wired, wireless, USB 2, USB 3) and every USB port on the machine, both from the rear I/O panel and from the front ports. I even ran it through a powered USB hub. The issue persists.

After doing some research, I found that Windows 8 and 8.1 added a number of power-saving functions that might interfere with USB devices, so I have disabled all of those. I manually disabled the USB power saving from every connected USB device, and well as changed the computer's overall power-saving policy. The issue persists.

Additionally, I have updated the chipset drivers to the latest release from the manufacturer. No dice.

I am using an ASUS G10AC running Windows 8.1.

If anyone can help with this, I would really appreciate it. It's making me absolutely crazy.

I managed to fix this myself, although I'm really not sure what ended up doing it. I did the following, then rebooted, and haven't had the issue since. I suspect the issue was with AVG, but I'm not 100% sure:

- Ran a registry cleanup
- Uninstalled some random pieces of shovelwear that were pre-installed on the computer
- Manually defragged the primary HDD
- Uninstalled AVG and switched to Avast
