I currently have a m5a78lm/usb3 ASUS motherboard with a 760 GTX graphics card. I am hoping to replace my phenom II X4 955 with a 8320, but I found concern of heating control on the motherboard.

However, I AM NOT OCing MY CPU. Would you guys still recommend against it? If so, what are other motherboards you would recommend?

I have a 750 watt psu so I am not currently worried about the power.

I would not recommend that board because it is not robust enough for an 8 core cpu.
I can recommend this one.

Might be of some help to read this forums database about VRM and potential need of active cooling of VRM. Pick Asus in the tab (links down in the table for AM3+) and then you will see your MB is rated as 4+1 phase count for VRM. It will probably work, but it will be very depending on the quality of power from your own PSU and how cool your case manage to keep those VRM (and the ambient temperature in the rest of your system together with CPU) to avoid sudden down throttling while CPU is under heavy load.

I think it is better to go for those MB and chipset that according to this database will provide enough cooling without OC and without the need of an active fan over VRM parts to begin with. Micro ATX format would also mean that most ppl will get a smaller case (mATX sized) which will have less space for cooling, so in a way it negates the purpose even on a very small budget to get this MB as just for small step up in price you will get a full size ATX MB and not be buying a micro ATX sized case (as there seem to be very little option to find any good replacement of this MB that will be micro ATX sized).

Exactly, the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P is the best mobo for single GPU AMD FX processor PC's, its made specially for the FX9xxx series processors and had 8+2 powerphases and great cooling on the vrm's.
I use it on my FX 8320 rig!
