Two GTX970's or a 4k TV on Black Friday?

Hey all, was hoping to get a few opinions on my dilemma. Currently I am sitting on almost $1,000 in Amazon credit (I've been saving for a long time) and now that we are getting close to the holidays, I'm wanting to spend it.

My question is, what to do with it? I have two things I am considering:

Two GTX970 graphics cards, with a 4k monitor sometime down the line.

or

A 4k TV (Either a Vizio P series or a Samsung, going for either 55 or 60 inch)

Just so I provide all of the information I can:

My current machine has a Sandybridge processor, 32gb of RAM, and a GTX680. (A single card) I realize that due to Sandybridge not having PCI-E 3.0 support it will affect the performance, albeit slightly. I would likely upgrade the processor and motherboard once Broadwell is released.

My current TV is one of the old HP LCD screens. It does 1080p, but I've been wanting a new TV for a couple of years now.

I am both a PC AND a Console gamer. I do play graphics intensive games on my PC, but I have found that while viewing console games on other TVs, that mine could use an upgrade. (The TV is eight years old)

So that is my dilemma. Any suggestions? I would purchase the video cards right away, but I would wait to upgrade my TV until black friday, just in case Amazon has a killer deal.

Any help is appreciated!

I'd say 2x 970s, you don't wanna get stuck with mini displayport like I do on the 295x2, while they are great, they're limited with display options. Unless you want to pay an additional $2200 for a compatible TV, or go with monitors. But like I said, the 970s have HDMI 2.0, so you have more TV options :)

get 2 GTX 970s and a 1440P monitor if you cant get 1 980 and a 1440P monitor, 4k is far from being playable in games and consoles have a hard time pushing video content to a 4k TV, if you feel like you just want it to last forever forget the monitor all together and get the 970's but if you can add some money to that and get one of those korean monitors from newegg and 2 GTX 970's you can have alot of fun in your games, hope i helped

I would hold off on a 4k tv for now. I just purchased a Samsung 4K 50" HDVI and even though the gaming was great (4th gen i7 and two 780 6bg sli) and smooth @60hz I had issues were if I was loading a game or if the UAC in Windows popped up the screen would flash green. I updated the firmware and I still had issues. I even contacted Samsung and couldn't find a solution. Also when I tried to use Netflix (for 4K content) I would receive error messages and it would not work. I also had issues with several games that they wouldn't play above 1080P (would not even load). I ended up returning it. If you really need a tv and have the room for it id say game on a 50"+ LED 1080P tv. Or wait on the tv and just get the 970s. Personally i'm waiting till Feb after the superbowl to grab a tv since theyll be dirt cheap and I can get a 65" 1080P and go to town with BF4/Homeworld 2/Skyrim W/MODS/Far Cry4/ and AC:Unity!

PS: Don't get fooled by 120/240 hz marketing if you due decide to grab a tv soon. I played BF4 in Metro (4K@Medium Setting) with no lag and more importantly no screen tearing. V-sync on. * http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-performance-myths-debunked,3739.html * <-- Good info on HDTV/HDMI Gaming.
