Hi guys, been a while since I've had any PC issues and I recently decided to upgrade my rig and it's backfired and is now incredibly unstable which has put a downer on the purchases..

So my rig below:

AMD FX 8350 (8corecpu)
Sabertooth 990fx r2.0 (latest BIOS 2105 i think)
GTX 970 (Palit)
Corsair GS 600 PSU *
2 x4 gb Kingston DDR3 1600 RAM *
Generic Hitachi HDD *

*items are still from previous rig

*EDIT (This has been reset back to AHCI problem persists) Problems started initially after build would not get past windows logo, then from memory I think I read somewhere to change mode from AHCI to IDE - after i did this windows would load ok so I thought all was well.

Then keen to test out the system booted up COD Advanced Warfare after a few seconds of gameplay the pc quickly flashed a BSOD and then went completely dead, noticed the red cpu led illuminated.

I then went into bios and reset everything to default and restarted. It would boot but then I would now also get crashes when just in windows not doing much, this time however it would just go back to the initial tuff screen and restart itself with no error messages (I did not have to power on and off to get it to start again.

I noticed that if I changed the bios option from normal (i have not tried quiet yet) to performance it will not have the issue in windows anymore only when I try to play COD.

I have also seen in CPU-Z that the core speed and voltage fluctuate a lot (and i can hear the fan speeding up and slowing down when idle) ALso at stock the cpu is running faster than it should at around 4112. I have played around with various suggestions via bios setting which have got the fluctuations less dramatic but nothing seems to resolve the issue it essentially always restarts my pc, sometimes to the point that the red cpu light is on and i have to power on/off or it just silently and quickly restarts. To note cpu temps are below 30 (coretemp) when in windows and i'm using the stock cooler - with the side of the case open.

I have checked and reseated cpu, checked all connections are good to the board and i've really run out of ideas as to what I can do/what the issue is. It's very vague online with almost every components being sighted as the possible issue. It's very frustrating as I feel there is just some setting (or combination of settings) that I need to find to get this stable so I can play my games for longer than a few minutes at a time.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Blackbird, I have since reset BIOS defaults several times and have not had to check that option again so I presume it has defaulted back to AHCI and is now booting fine (I will re check in a second)

Coolax that's good to hear, just something I noticed it would go from 7 x multiplier to 21 x Really from what I've seen when it runs it's amazing and I probably wont ever look at cpu-z again but this issue is persistent and the many tweaks I have tried have essentially not helped the restart issue.

Coretemp reads my cpu at 32 max in windows, I don't know when gaming as it crashes. I'm using stock cooler which should be fine for it as I have no OC applied?

Also just out of interest I am capped at 91FPS how did you get 120 in CODAW? I also run max settings no problem (until it fails of course)

It's annoying as I havnt been able to get into the game and kinda wasted my dayzero purchase

Because I have a 144 hz monitor running at 120, I removed the FPS cap through the configs.
Try again, get the bsod and then Check the system logs

Nice, I bet that looks sweet when gaming (my monitor will have to do for a while as I've just spent over £500 on the recent bits)

As I mentioned previously I don't see the BSOD anymore (not even a flash) or any other error messages, it goes straight to restart.

I checked event logs and kernel power event 41 task 63 pops up every time.

I'm wondering if my PSU if not up to the task anymore? (It's a fairly recent purchase) I was able to replicate the restart just now in OCCT (on the PSU test) as soon as it hit full load on cpu and gpu (in a few seconds) it did the restart...I thought my PSU would be ok considering i'm not running anything other than stated in my specs..?

Damn when I bought it (after several cheapo ones 'popping' on me) I did so because it was recommended for quality and durability....Maybe not so BUT I just ran the GPU test on OCCT and replicated the same restart in less than a minute also...wtf is going on! -.- (the cpu test was fine surprisingly considering I get the red CPU led on the board when it has it restarts in normal BIOS mode as opposed to performance)

I'm kinda leaning to the PSU on a hunch (also there is a noticeable electrical crack when i put power cable in when pc and psu turned off and also it crackled slightly once when i turned off the power button on the back of the psu after a restart - pulled my hand away as you do) However I don't know if this is just normal as pc then restarts fine) Considering the other components are brand new however - I really don't want to have to buy a new PSU on a suspicion just to find out its not that.

SOLUTION: MY PSU was bad, don't know exactly what was wrong with it but got a new XFX TS 750 (Bronze) and no restarts now

However in COD AW I am now getting really low FPS horrible blur and missing textures just on the main screen when I max everything out...

Working on this now, it's never just a simple fix.... :/
