Skip Bioshock to Infinite?

Right now, I am about half way through bio shock and about 4 hours in, but the problem is, I seriously can't get into it. The game just crashed and i am not sure if my game saved but I want to know if I am far enough in that I can skip to Infinite (i own all 3) and still get the full jist of the game. NO SPOILERS PLEASE

Bioshock Infinite occurs in a different timeline than Bioshock and Bioshock 2. There is some crossover though so I do recommend that you play the first one first.
