I wanted to get a new laptop lately and have narrowed down to this one :
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np7338-clevo-w230ss-p-6992.html

Its pretty powerful and comes with a gtx 860m. I was kind of hoping that 960m laptops would be available around this time but sadly not. Does anybody with an 860m laptop know how well these things perform compared to a desktop card(specifically a gtx 580) Does the 860m come close to performing as well as that card?

If there is larger than a 20% performance difference between those 2 cards, I'll just wait for 960m.

Check at notebookcheck.net about 840M and you ll see that even Geforce 840M can run ACU on HD resolution

I don't know what you are looking at but this is the sad reality:

Assassin's Creed Unity 2014: low 1024x768 26.6 fps med. 1366x768 18.6 fps 1920x1080 10.5 fps (all from http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html)

so if 10.5fps is ok for you then yeah you can just about run it .... but you can't really play it.

ok - I'm sorry.... I've just noticed this post was about the 860m not the 840m. So yeah the 860m can do it. But it was you who mentioned the 840m in your last post so I just assumed the whole discussion was about the 840m. Anyway we both stand corrected. The reason I jumped on this post is because I was going to get a Lenovo with 840m and after doing a lot of research decided that I need to go up to a GTX 860m maxwell in order to make sure I'm getting value for money. Planning to get my Asus G751JM tomorrow.
