OK, I have never built a PC, so please bare with me. I have an ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 motherboard, an AMD FX 6300 processor, and an evga 600 b power supply. I believe thats where my problem lies, but if your curious, i also have 2 8 gig sticks of kingston ram and a 2.0tb hard drive (cant remember manufacturer). i attached a nothing special graphics card for now, since the motherboard has no graphics.

Everything went well when building. no surpises, no setbacks. first time I powered on, it seemed to go ok. the case lit up, the fans (included the one on the cpu) turned on. however, i didnt get anything on the screen. Also, I cannot open the cd drive I attached.

At first I thought that there was something wrong with my sata connections because of the cd drive, but if my harddrive wasnt detected, the pc would beep at me, no? I got no beeps. So, what do I have to do to see something on my screen? I didnt even see a bios boot.

any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Make sure the video card is installed in slot PCIE2
Make sure that the GPU is fully seated. There is a latch at the rear of the slot that can interfere with proper seating.
Make sure that the 8-pin CPU power is connected.
Make sure that the 24 pin ATX power is fully seated.
Make sure any 6 pin power connections for the "nothing special" GPU are connected.
Check that the "nothing special" GPU is in fact expected to work. In some cases, a PCIE 1.0 card won't work in a modern machine.

If still no luck, list full system specifications including monitor.
