USB Ports Not Working After Installing Printer

I recently bought an Epson XP-310 printer, and I followed the instructions to install it...inserted cd while printer was unplugged from USB ports, waited for the prompt to insert plug into USB port, went through the installation normally, now all of a sudden my external hard drive no longer is functional...it doesn't show up in Windows explorer like it used to as "E" drive. I've tried plugging it into another USB port, still the same. Also, oddly, I can print ok to my printer from my PC (I'm running Windows 7), but I cannot scan a document. I try to scan, and it says, "Please plug in printer/scanner" or something similar, like my printer is not connected via USB. I'm baffled, this should have been an easy install of a basic printer/scanner, no it only partially works (cannot scan) and I've completely lost my external hard drive! I notice in Device manager, there is a yellow "!" under Universal Serial Bus Controllers ...halfway down there is an "Unknown Device" with the yellow exclamation point. Any ideas folks? Please help :(

those yellow ? mark means the driver are not install for the device uninstall the printer driver then see if all usb work if not made a search for new device in peripheral then when all usb will work plug the printer and see if the os will detect and ask for the driver install .
