Best free anti-virus

Hi. I bought my new laptop about a month ago and the free trial of McAfee antivirus was officially ended today. So i was wondering which antivirus (preferably free version) software would be the best for me to use. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

Avast free. Do a custom install and uncheck all of the tools except for browser protection. Register with name and email and make sure to stay with basic protection. It is good for a year and prompts you to re-register 20 days out. It updates everyday and is very good.

I used to use avira, which was great but grew tired of the constant pop ups and nagging to upgrade to full version. So I switched to microsoft security essentials and have been using it for about 2 years now without a single problem.

thank you. what about BitDefender software? one of my friend recommended that software. do you perhaps know anything bout it?

It is completely free. They update definitions on it, and best of all there are no annoying pop ups or asking you to "please buy our full version antivirus".
