I currently have a hard drive with my os, runs fine by itself.
I got a new hard drive for games and stuff (Seagate Barracuda ST3160815AS 3gb/s 160gb SATA)
I plugged it in and my pc wont boot.
I have checked to see that the cable is plugged into 3gb/s slot.
I have checked to make sure it isnt in the boot. My boot order is some windows loader for my old hard drive, then 2nd is my regular.
When i put my 2nd hard drive in, and make sure it isnt selected as boot, as it is not os, my first 2 boot processes dont boot to os. It will for a split second it seems, as it does windows startup, then it just goes back.
When I take new hard drive out it works again.

Solution
What is your drive that you have the OS on? Do you have AHCI enabled for that drive? Your "new" hard drive must run in Legacy IDE mode - make sure you BIOS can setup the OS drive for AHCI and the 2nd drive for Legacy IDE mode....

My OS format is ntfs, how do i get it to AHCI?

Hey there, VaconeerTM!

I think this guide will about installing a new HDD that your system doesn't recognize will be very helpful to you:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/265764-32-guide-installed-disk-system

You need to go to BIOS and enable the AHCI mode on the SATA ports yourself.
Or you can use this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html

NTFS (New Technology File System) is the default file system for Windows OS. It is used to control how data is stored and retrieved. Without a file system, information placed in a storage area (HDD) would be one large body of data with no way to tell where one piece of information stops and the next begins.

Where as AHCI stands for Advanced Host Controller Interface and means a hardware mechanism that allows the software to communicate with Serial ATA (SATA) devices.

Hope this was helpful! :)
