Okay so, a few days ago my WD 500 gb (blue) hard disk gave up on me, so I got a new WD hard disk (500 gb blue) and got genuine windows 7 professional x64 installed on it (previously had windows 7 professional aswell but I think it was pirated) Anyways so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and stuff and downloaded and installed FIFA 15 from origin that I had previously purchased and was playing it on the previous OS and Hard Disk but the thing is that I'm not getting a stable 60 fps now (keeps dropping to 58-56-52) even though my GPU's core clock doesn't go beyond 1050 MHz while playing (its clocked at 1200 MHz) the temps are fine aswell and I used to get a constant 60 fps on my previous OS and HD. So, can anyone PLEASE tell me why this is happening?
(Note : I am playing on the same settings)

Specs - CPU -Intel Core i3-2120 @3.30 GHz
RAM - 8 gb (1333 MHz)
GPU - Sapphire R7 260x 2gb oc
OC - Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Mobo - Intel DH61WW
PSU - Cooler Master Thunder 450w

This. The proper SATA port is indeed very important. Also, what settings are you running on fifa now? Did you check if you used the same game settings?

As mentioned before: Check your hard disk with a hdd health check application.

Hi, thanks a lot for replying. I honestly don't remember which port the previous HDD was installed in since I didn't install the new one in myself..
and thanks for the link, I downloaded the tool and ran the extended test for the HDD and it just shows a green check mark

thanks for replying. I don't think my motherboard (DH61WW) has 6gb/s sata ports
and I have scheduled defragmentation on which defrags every wednesday

thanks for replying. I'm pretty sure my mobo does not have 6gb/s sata ports
and yeah I'm using the same game settings on fifa 15

have you tried shortstroking your hard disk? it might help!

If the extended test of DLG didn't show anything, then most probably the drive is fine. On the other hand, you say that everything else is the same. So, you can just test the drive with some other testing tool and see whether it will give you similar results. Look for bad/pending sectors, etc.
If the other tools give the same results though, the problem should be somewhere else.

Cheers,

are you sure that the problem causing the unstable fps has something to do with the hard disk

and what according to you could possibly be causing the problem, if not the hard disk?

well, you said that you havent changed anything but the hard disk in the entire system, and your fps dropped... so it might be

well then how can I check if the HDD is causing it?

this is a link to Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic :http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=613&sid=3&lang=en

download this and check for errors

I did that earlier and ran the extended test and it didn't show any errors

I just bought my graphics card this September and it seems to be working fine and the ratings of the gpu and cpu on the windows experience index are the same as they were previously and the temps of both seem fine too.
is there anyway I can know for sure whether or not one of them is actually causing the problem?

then it must be the cpu.... run speedfan.. its a temp monitor, play a game for 15mins, go back and check the temps

I use realtemp to monitor that and I did what you said and the temps seem fine to me
