Upgrade HD 5770 1GB or Wait For Rebuild?

I've got an aging computer (built in 2010) that was built for gaming. It's held up quite well, but recently I went to play the trial for FF14. Had a great time, but I noticed that I wasn't able to get 60 fps even on lowest settings. In fact, I was having a hard time keeping 30 fps on low settings. It's obviously time for an upgrade. I've upgraded this computer a few times over the years, and have extended it's life by quite a bit, but now I'm wondering if I should consider a rebuild so I can get a new mobo, switch to an Intel processor, and install a SSD. If I don't wait, the next component that I think I should upgrade is my graphics card.

My question is: should I upgrade my graphics card and eke out some more life from this build, or save my money for the more expensive rebuild?

The only difference between the R9 270 and 270X is clockspeed, they use the same core chip and memory systems so you could trust to luck and go for the cheapest option (R9 270) and hope it'll overclock well. So, do you feel lucky, poster?
Unless you can find one on promo the GTX760 is generally a little over $200, and anyway you prefer AMD...
Which leaves the R9 280, (not thje 'X' version), it's quicker than a R9 270X, most overclock pretty well and they're available under budget, even the well cooled ones, it's a rebadge of the venerable HD7950 which is a more than competent HD gaming card.
And as aaronfield says, the PSU should be fine, although it's a bit weak on the 12v output it does at least have 2X 6+2 PCI-E leads to keep the...

well you can opt for the r9 280x but with a 600w psu you might not be able to OC or add much upgrades

your processor is decent and will not bottleneck your card

but if you want to play games for the nesxt few years in 1080p and ultra i would recommend that you save up and get a better processor(in a few years yours migh just get a bit old..thats all) and GPU (maybe opt for the gtx 970)

hope it helps!

How big of a power supply would I need to handle a graphics card upgrade?

Also, I did some research on prices for the r9 280x, and none of them are less than $200. That's outside my price range... are there any other cards that are within the budget of $100-$200 that would be a worthwhile upgrade?

without a psu upgrade in your budget maybe thr r9 270x, but it will
not last out that long

and the next best one is

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=gtx+760&N=-1&isNodeId=1

which is around 210$

which is a bit less powerful than the 280x

Sorry for the mistake

hope this helps!!

I would sell you my 7970 for $200. It is the equivalent to a 280x (they are literally the same). It's used but PM me if youre interested. And a 600w PSU should be fine.

Expect a big surprise. ;)
