Hi All!
I have a stock Dell Inspiron 580 Desktop, with a Intel Core i5 650 Clarkdale @ 3.2Ghz. It has a stock Foxxcom Motherboard and a stock hard drive.

I would like to replace the motherboard and processor to something newer, but will my Hard Drive still operate considering it has the Dell 'Locked BIOS"?

In essence, can I put in a New Z97 GIGABYTE Motherboard and an Intel Core i5 46-- Core processor, and have the hard-drive still work and keep my OS, and files, and such or will I have to get a new drive with Windows 7?

Thanks!

Hi there
You will be able to keep your current drive, but most likely you will need to do a re-install.
It is possible that you might be able to use the recovery feature on the Dell, but either way, you need to back up before you start as you will lose everything on the drive.
