GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 and i5 4690k, planning on overclocking both but no watercooling, is this a good PSU?

What could be the worst that would happen.

Worst case would be kill everything in the PC. Average case would be a failure after the 3 year warranty peroid. Best case it would last the life of the PC.
The power supply is the last place to skimp on you save 20 bucks on the price that is really a low figure compaired to the cost of the PC.

Could you recommend a better 500w PSU ((semi-)modular please).

Some PSU brands will publish a Haswell Compatibility list. Corsair's is here:

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/blog/2013/may/haswell-compatibility-with-corsair-power-supplies

The entries that show "Likely compatible — currently validating" are not compatible. The list has shown that status for over a year and a half and hasn't changed for those models and never will.

The Corsair CS Series are all semi-modular and fully Haswell compatible.
