But I'd go out on a limb and say the majority of people on this forum use more than a single core at any given time. Most people here aren't casual computer users/ email checkers.

The FX 6300 wouldn't make a huge difference since your card is not that powerful and with a good overclock you can almost reach the performance of the 6300, though be careful because you can damage your hardware.

Is your phenom a BE edition? Try overclocking it. I have a similar build using a 965BE overclocked to 4.0 using the multiplier in the BIOS. If it isn't stable at what you clock it to, try raising voltage a small amount at a time until it is stable for a few hours on a stress test using Prime95 or the like. You can find lots of tutorials on overclocking all over the place.

I say spring for a FX 8XXX. That will be my next cpu and only because this one is slow to convert blu ray movies in handbrake. It doesn't have any trouble at all in games.

The difference between it at 3.9 GHz and the FX 6300 is only 25% and I'd say that it's not worth it upgrading for only that much. An actual upgrade would be 40% and above.

umm i will take that notice in my mind in the upcoming upgrade ,, do you think fx 8350 will reach that 40 % ?

Yep, even more than that. If you have the money, I'd say get a FX 8350 for $172.97 or 9370 for $199.90.

I myself have Intel Core i7-3770K, but it's a bit too much saying an i3 would outperform the 8350.

yes i am thinking about that , but the fx 8350 will need a better graphic card ,, i hate that circle of upgrading :(

yes i think that 8350 will be more powerful than the i3 , and what me sure of that is the evil within which need a quad core i think , and the assassin`s creed whicj requirment is a quad core too , so i think we are on the way of needing that 8 core in upcoming games

A GPU can never bottleneck a CPU. You may have the most powerful CPU in the world and a Radeon HD 6770, the system will perform on its max without any throttling, while if you have a Pentium 4 at 2 GHz without HT and the same card the throttling will be so huge, the machine would be termed inoperable in gaming conditions.

In single core applications, the i3 is about 30% than the 8350.
