Window 8 Update - Now my computer says "Hard Drive not Detected". I entered BIOS and all 3 hard drives ( 2 SSD and an old 500GB) all show up. I changed the boot priority to where the old one is first and it boots to Windows XP (what I had on it a couple years ago).
Yesterday my computer was working great on Windows 8, I "Updated and Shut down" and now this is happening. I disconnected the old hard drive just in case this was the issue, but it still is saying "No hard drive detected". (But still shows the HDs in BIOS).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi

BIOS settings are stored in CMOS memory and do not usually change by itself ?
(unless cmos 3V button battery is dying, usual sympton loss of date time settings)

and unless this very old PC the hard disk SATA setting should be AHCI not ATA / IDE compatible.
(Some old Dells had funny settings for SATA or RAID drives )

This is especially important for SSD drives as Trim usually does not work without AHCI (= Native SATA mode)

But that does not matter if it is now working and date time is correct when switched on

Hi

Do you have a windows 8 DVD or a emergency recovery cd or usb
Or even a windows 8.i ISO from Digital River

If you boot up from windows 8 recovery cd or DVD or usb and the one drive which has windows 8.1 on it the emergency recovery disk should offer to repair the boot files

Once this has been repaired and tested , add the other drives and make sure the boot disk is the correct one

Well... spoke with Microsoft for 2 hours... They are IDIOTs...

Talked to my dad, took him 2 minutes to tell me to look to see if the BIOS was changed from RAID to IDE.

Somehow it got changed and I switched it back. Works perfectly now
