I own a WD Passport 1 TB HDD. Since a few days now, my computer has stopped letting me explore the drive. I thought it was a computer issue, so I plugged in the drive on other computers (Windows 8, Windows XP) and it didn't let me explore it even then. I switched the disk's USB connector cord to a new one, but it still gives me the same problem. It is not that the drive is not recognized. When I go to "safely remove hardware", the option "Eject My Passport" comes but I'm not able to access the drive at all. The drive is also shown in the device manager, but for some reason not in the file explorer. The drivers are also up to date.
I've applied for a replacement and WD have okayed it, but I have some important data in there and I don't want to lose it without knowing I did everything I could to save it.
Please help. Thanking in advance.
Cheers!

You shouldn't have run the Full Erase (Write Zeros), this writes zeros on each sector of the drive which permanently deletes the data from it. Hopefully everything is still OK as this has failed, probably because it couldn't locate the partitions. You could try opening the drive with Linux LiveCD to see if you can access it and recover your data.
Hey Shubs. Sorry to hear that you have issues with your drive. Take a look at this thread over here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
It could prove useful for retrieving your data.
Other than that, have you tried to change the letter of the drive if you can see it in Disk Management?
Here's how to do that: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/137/

Hope that helps.

Hello Boogieman, the thing is that there is no recognizable drive. I used the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, downloaded from the WD website. The results I get are as follows:

Drive # : 2
Model Number: WD My Passport 0748 (USB)
Serial Number: WXD1xxxxxxx (I've omitted the serial number here)
Capacity: 0 MB
SMART Status: Not Available

The drive passed the Quick Test and the Extended Test (the capacity shown is still 0.00 GB), but the drive failed the Write Zeros test, giving an error code 20 [delete partitions error!].

I hope this helps you answer my question more specifically.
