I recently upgraded my GTX 260 for a r9 290 (quite a jump) and everything works fine except the random black screens every so often. It's usually 10-15 mins into my first game of the day. After a restart it doesn't seem to happen again the whole day. I was worried about my power supply not being enough, the box recommends minimum of 750w, mine is a 730w and i have been reassured that 500/550 is enough so i can't think what else it could be. I have the newest drivers and have thoroughly deleted the old nvidia ones. Any suggestions?

See my previous posts HERE and HERE.

It seems we had the same issue except instead of a black screen, mine would just freeze the image on screen within the first half hour of my first game of the day. Then, after that, I could play for hours without issue.

If you read my posts, you'll see that I literally did everything possible to troubleshoot including swapping almost every item in my PC. It was the graphics cards. I've come to the conclusion that AMD has SHITTY drivers and after months of troubleshooting and pulling my hair out, I have gone back to team green. My three GTX 980s get here tonight and I couldn't be happier.

I hate telling you this because you just got the card and I'm sure are excited, but AMD is pure and utter garbage. If it's still within a return policy, return it and get a GTX 970.

Happy gaming and best of luck to you, my friend.

Thanks for the fast replies. I'll have a look at my PSU. Automatiic, I really hope you are wrong, unfortunately returning it isn't really an option as it was 2nd hand on ebay. I was looking at the gtx 970/980 but it came down to cost. I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks again for taking the time to offer your help. I appreciate it.
