First Build - CPU High Temperature

Hi guys, it's my first build. I put everything in place and before connecting anything else like monitor etc. I wanted to try if everything works fine. Fans, leds everything looks working but on my motherboard there is a part called Debug Code. And the user guide says it will show CPU temperature. It goes up to 70 - 80. If it really is the CPU temperature, i found it extremely high.

What can be the problem? I didn't install the HDD and SSD yet. I have the CPU fan which comes with the box.

My build;

INTEL Core i5-4690
Asus R9 270 Direct CU II OC
MSI Z97 GAMING 5 DDR3
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 (2x4)
Aerocool Strike-X Xtreme Black Edition 750W

Thank you

Solution
70-80c or 70-80f?

70f is ok 70c isnt

look in the bios monitoring section to see the cpu temperature

if its 70c then you probably havent installed the heatsink properly

if its one with those push pins then one or more arent properly engaged

Solution
If the temp was too high, the computer will turn itself off for protection. It is perfectly safe to install the OS. I would do this and then check the temps. 70-80c at idle with a properly installed heatsink sounds VERY unlikely.

My overclocked 3570k idles at 42-45 with the fan completely unplugged. I find it VERY hard to believe that the CPU is idling at 80c with the cooler properly installed.

i agree--but dont know if they have properly installed the cooler

couple of seconds to look in the bios to see the temps seems easy to me rather than a possible shut down due to over heating while installing windows

im going by it being their first build that its possible they didnt install the cooler properly

I would assume they didn't install it correctly either. It is about the only reason this would happen. We also have to make sure the board is actually giving temps. My MSI GAMING series board gives a wide range of numbers and sits at 68 ( a code not a temp reading) until you boot into Windows full and get to the log in screen. Then it starts reading temps.

Okay guys, thank you all for answers. I'm gonna install windows and also try to find out if it's F or C. And to check if i install the cooler correctly or not, should i completely remove the motherboard?

Yes, the user guide says it shows temperature when fully boot. But the number was continuously increasing so i assumed it was the temperature. I'll try to find out if it's in C

Thank you very much guys! I reinstalled the cooler. I guess i should have pressed it harder but i was too scared to break anything :) I read somewhere that it shows temperature in celsius. Now it changes between 49 and 50. But i really don't like how the cooler attaches to the board, it's very weak. I guess i should buy a nice thermal paste and cooler as soon as possible.

glad to help

i really dislike those push pin coolers--too easy as you found not to properly engage a pin--especially if you never did it before

Hi again, i didn't want to create another thread so i will ask here. I saw max. 41 C in BIOS by the way, which is even better.

The question is, i have an SSD which has a hackintosh installed in it. Should i just put the SSD in place and install windows with a bootable USB, or should i first Secure Erase it and then install windows? I won't be able to buy a new one for a couple of months so i don't want to damage it.
