Hi, another forum member actually found a seemingly awesome deal on a R9 290X at around 300$, roughly half the price of other cards 290 X sold on the same store (i live in Japan). Here is the card

I cannot seem to find any information on the card and almost none on the maker, except that they sell in Japan only.

For 40$ more, i can get the sapphire 290 tri x oc, with higher core clock.

What do you think?

If i recall correctly, Kurotoushikou distributes AMD cards made by Visiontek (one of AMD's board partners). But the deal breaker is that the 290X you listed uses the reference cooler which is very very very very bad for the 290/290x so I say that you should go for the 290 tri-X which is already a proven design.

Or alternatively, follow others' suggestions and get a GTX 970 if they are priced similarly

or if your room is cold

not bothered amd or nvidia i will buy whichever is best

but just upgraded my 7970 and quite honestly i didnt even look at r9 290x as the gtx is just killing them power consumption

wise,heat wise and noise wise

here in the uk its caused huge price drops from amd--but i think they are in trouble till the series 3xxx cards
