Hi,

I have upgraded my graphics cards from a evga gtx650 to the Asus gtx780ti. My old graphics card was running fine but new games required an upgrade.

The problem I am having is that when the system loads up the fans on the gpu run quietly but when the system loads into windows 7 the gpu fans speed up to what I would describe as a plane taking off. In the Asus tweak software and the msi overclocking software the temp is shown as 25c and fan speed is showing 37% at 0rpm. I have ran last years ac4 black flag with settings turned up to max and the temp doesn't exceed 48c.

My pc specs:

Intel i5 750@2.67ghz
Corsair 600w psu
Asus gtx780ti gpu
8gb ddr3 1333 ram
1tb Samsung black hdd x2

I have tried to use Asus tweak program to adjust fan speed to less tha 37 % but according to the program it is already running at that speed.

The driver for the gpu is the current one 344.65

I hope someone will be able to help.

Thanks

so it only happen during windows boot up? does it make the same loud sound when playing games? right now i'm suspecting when you first boot up your pc the fan quickly spinning at 100% speed causing the loud noise you heard during start up. i don't know how is it with GTX780Ti but my asus GTX460 DC (first generation DC which only have one fan instead of 2 with DC2 coolers) even at 60% fan speed it is not really audible to me although i never pushed it to 100% speed.

thank you for your reply renz496.

From the point I press the power switch till I get to the windows login screen the 2 fans on the GPU run at normal quiet speeds. After the windows login screen comes up the GPU fans start spinning at full speeds. They do not stop spinning at full speed no matter how long I keep the pc on. The only way to stop them spinning at speed is if I turn the PC off or if uninstall the GPU from device manager and it switches to windows VGA driver.

I think the problem may be with bios or the speed sensors because GPU-Z is showing the temp to be around 23-26C and the fan to be spinning at 37% speed and at 0rpm. Under load from games running in very high graphics at 1080p the fan speed does not change. On the GPU Box it says its meant to be 3X quieter.

This may help. The GPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-asus-gtx-780-ti-direct-cu-ii-pcie-30-7000mhz-gddr5-gpu-876mhz-boost-928mhz-cores-2880-dp-dvi-hdm

Not at first. I ran in to the fan problem first, to find a solution I went online to this forum and other and looked up the issue. people had sogested to other with simlar problems not to use the software which came with the GPU but to use MSI Afterburner instead. so I uninstalled asus gpu tweak and installed MSI Afterburner instead.

I know why you ask "did you have both Asus GPU tweak and MSI After Burner installed on your system?" because people on the forum had said do not install both programmes as the GPU will not know where to send the GPU sensor data.

installing both could lead to both software to conflict with each other. personally i prefer how MSI afterburner handle things. other than MSI after burner EVGA Precision also seems nice. so even with only MSI after burner installed in your system you still having problem with fan running at full speed at all times?

A lot of people suggest on forums that msi afterburner should fix the problem but unfortunately not for me. I contacted the store where i bought it from scan computers, the person who i spoke to suggested I should us Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from guru3D to uninstall all the drivers etc. and then install the driver again and see if it fixes the problem if not they will replace the card for me. Unfortunately it did't work so they are going to replace the card for me stating a possible sensor/ bios issue. I have to say excellent customer service.

Scan Computers were very helpful. they arranged for the faulty card to be taken away and tested. They found the fault with fans and sent me a new card. Gainward GTX780ti oc. This card thankfully has be working well. I have been playing AC5 Unity on it without any problems.
