How can I install video card drivers with my eyes closed?

With no onboard video, one needs a video card. With a video card, one needs video card drivers. How does one install said drivers without having them already installed to see?

EDIT: MY SCREEN IS BLACK. I have never seen a pixel from this system, it has never had video drivers installed.

FIXED: I was trying to use HDMI, apparently I needed to use the DVI port for first use, which was blocked by my case, unfortunately. I moved the graphics card to the 2nd slot (should probably move it back?) and I am able to get in now

You can install the drivers after you've put in your graphics card, but you need to unistall the old ones first. Hope this was the answer you were looking for.

windows has built in generic drivers (or it should)...It allows you to display at 800x600 res. You may have to try booting into safe mode if this isn't a fresh install. Once you have the display going (you may also need to use DVI/VGA, no HDMI until you get drivers) you can get the drivers from the Nvidia/AMD website.

A graphics card will utilize the very basic video drivers included with your OS. They are enough to provide an image. Once installed and connected to the net, then you can download and install the necessary drivers from AMD/NVidia.

I don't know about you, but trying to install Windows without anything showing on the screen would be a little difficult.. I'm sure its possible though.

If you can't even see BIOS, then you have another issue. Please list your system components.

Maybe there's something wrong with the videocard then, or the build itself.

Do you have the monitor cable plugged into the motherboard or the video card? If plugged into the motherboard and you have a video card installed, try plugging the monitor into the video card instead.

EVGA Z87 Classified mobo, Devils Canyon i5 CPU, EVGA Geforece GTX 660 FTW Signature 2.. The motherboard is nice as it gives good diagnostic codes, like at first the RAM (runs at max voltage the mobo can take @ 2400) wasn't seated right and it caught that and reported an error code on an LED on the mobo itself specifying. I'm pretty sure it boots up normally, and no errors are reported.

According to EVGA, there is a pair of Mini DisplayPort connectors on the back panel. However, unless you have one of the few monitors with DisplayPort support or are using an adapter, that still leaves you with having to use the video card. I assumed where I shouldn't have.

You should be able to at least see the BIOS since drivers are not required for that, only a functional video controller.

Sounds like a faulty component, but until we get a FULL specs list, we cannot rule out any incompatibilities. Are you able to test your graphics card in another system?

having a graphics card doesn't magically display an OS. You need a copy of Windows, or Linux...then you will actually have an image to display.
