Not booting up. I think I tried everything. Time for a new motherboard?

I believe the start of the problem was 2 sons repeatedly hitting the power button in the front and flipping the switch on the surge protector. I disconnected the lights and turned the button off in the OS.

Later I had an issue that it wouldn't start up. Found that it was likely a short in one of the front USB ports since it would start up after disconnecting it from the motherboard.

The problem eventually required me to plug it into the motherboard until fans start then disconnect. Otherwise it wouldn't get past the 1st OS splash page.

Worked fine with that method until I shut it down via OS to change to a surge protector that's more childproof.

So far I've tried:
paperclip testing PSU (even though signs of overheating, it works)
Manually jumping the power via screwdriver
Tried a new PSU (passed paperclip test prior)
Booting with minimum RAM and hardware
Unplugging hardware from the motherboard to check for shorts

notes:
PSU fan starts when tested but not when I hook it up to the 24 pin on the motherboard.

The motherboard LED lights up (solid) with both PSUs but was blinking when the front USB was hooked up. Would go solid immediately when removed.

I spoke too soon. Looks like it's starting up now. Didn't work the 1st round of starting it up but somehow started working when I was showing someone how to manually start the pc w/o the button.

Resetting the bios looks like it took care of it.

Huge thanks Night Owl!!!!!
