Sub $800 gaming build. Community opinions wanted :)

For that build 750W is overkill. 550W should be plenty. And why choose a B85 motherboard when you can probably get Z97 or H97 for the same price? B motherboards were aimed at enterprise use. Z is enthusiast and H is mainstream. I'd focus on those two unless you had a specific reason for going B85.

You could also look at MSI H81 motherboards with the special BIOS to take advantage of the unlocked multiplier to save even more money, such that maybe you could get up to GTX970 or R9 290 or similar.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I plan to give him the ability to overclock. He wants to have this computer for awhile and I want to give him that option in the future. There is no after market cooler at this time due to him wanting to get this up and running for under $800, but in the future he will purchase one. Also, yes we are striping his old computer of its HDD. thanks for giving me the info. I will however use the RAM you suggested. It goes better with the aesthetics of the MB.
