my laptop is 5 years old and when I listen to videos on the computer I get intermittent buzzing noises. I've installed the newest (2012) audio and graphics drivers - it did not help. I also get the intermittent buzzing when I play PowerPoints with sound. I'm using Windows 7 on a Dell Inspirion 1545. Will an external usb sound card that I can plug into the laptop and then to some speakers get rid of the intermittent buzzing, since it will circumvent the sound devices internal to the laptop?

Thank you. The buzzing is gone. I got a Diamond USB External Sound Card. It does some times blank out the sound just for a tiny second. I don't know how to stop the interruptions to the sound, it is better than the buzz. There is one thing in the instructions that I can't find. It says to set the audio properties to the full hardware acceleration and the best sample rate conversion quality. They are showing a picture of 'Advanced Audio Properties' I have windows seven and I can't find any audio properties anywhere in the control panel.
