Hello all

I just want to ask for any advice relating to a system upgrade I am going to be making which will be for gaming.

I have never built a system before and I have an outdated system for gaming that is a pain in the butt and is starting to fail, so its time for a massive rework. (Already know the cause of failure)

I already have a GTX 770 and a 750W PSU inside my current system and will transfer these over.

After reading a massive! amount of information I want to ask people with knowledge of building gaming systems if I will run into any brick walls with these components or should purchase other requirements.

NOTE: My funding is flexable at the moment even with all these parts, I may just have to wait a little longer so please do not worry about funding comments. Also, christmas and many sales are approaching, if I should wait for better deals please comment on this too as so far I just hear its only slightly cheaper(£10 if anything) and not worth the wait.

OKAY! So I will list the computer parts and such below and I just want to make sure this will function properly and together with no problems

(E.g I don't buy a component like a CPU socket 1150 and a 2011 motherboard and end up screwed and stupid wasting money).

So here's the components I am buying:

Asus X99-Deluxe Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX motherboard

(Link-http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-x99-deluxe-intel-x99-s-2011-3-ddr4-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-%28x16%29-atx)

Intel 5820K Haswell-E Core i7 CPU Unlocked 6 Core Socket 2011-3 Processor
(Link-http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i7-5820k-unlocked-s-2011-3-haswell-e-6-core-33ghz-36ghz-turbo-28-pci-e-lanes-15mb-cache-r)

Cooler Master CM Storm Stryker White
(Link-http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cooler-master-storm-stryker-white-black-full-tower-with-25-hdd-ssd-x-dock-usb-30-fan-controller-side)

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR 4 2666MHz Quad Channel
(Link-http://www.scan.co.uk/products/16gb-%284x4gb%29-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-lpx-black-pc4-21300-%282666%29-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-16-18-18-35-xm)

This is along with the CX750M and GTX 770 2GB OC I have. It will have my two hard drives, both 3.5" and will be running on Windows 7, if that means much :p.

Just for the record since its best to be very specific on these forums I do know all the safety measures especially with static charges. Even in todays technology I still wear to be safe.

So thats all, pls post a comment and let me know what you think and even ideas that YOU would recommend for me.

Thank you all :)

First of all just for gaming this RIG is an overkill.
Go for i5 4690K if you want something with decent power and much less cheaper.
But if you want an i7 go for 4790K along a Z97 motherboard. Use that extra money for getting a better PSU than the CXM.

I agree with with the poster above. Haswell-E is only in its infancy so to speak in terms of its progression, and the boards and RAM that follows it are still playing catch up. DDR4 is very expensive at the moment, and its price doesn't justify the performance upgrade. And a 4790k is top of the line for 1150.

i7 4790k and z97 board all the way, and spend that cash difference on a good PSU (actually the MOST important piece of hardware in your machine.. it is the one component that can fry your machine if it fails :p) get AX series from corsair.. amazing PSU's.

EDIT: Furthermore.. if you really want performance, get that PSU, and also a 2nd gtx770 for SLI, and you'll be golden.

Hello, Thank you for the speedy comment and your input :)

It is a little overkill and I do use it primarly on gaming but I should also have mentioned that I study and perform a lot of programming code on my current computer where doing multiple things at once is essential and would be benefitted with a more powerful computer.

Another reason I would build this would be to secure it for the future, not having to upgrade for a very long time.

Would you agree?

Hello, thank you for the speedy reply :)

I have an i5 Sandy bridge but it is the reason for my current system failure as I have gone through many tests to find the problem is laying there.

I believe I have other failures but hard to pin point the cause, the system freezes and resumes after several seconds which makes it hard for gaming and annoying. I play on around 40-60 fps, capped at 60. My resolution is 1080p on duo screen. The computer is overall slow.

Hello, Thanks for your speedy reply and input :)

You are right there. I did worry about the price and for the ending performance result over DDR4 to DDR3. I may have to take this to the drawing board after these inputs from you guys/girls.

After all my current system failures and slow performances and freezes I just wanted to overkill any possibility of slowness.

4790K can handle alot of multi-tasking.
And no one can say how future proof a thing would be because it depends on the how productive it is compared to the techs which would be out in future and no one knows what will come out in future. That's why I believe one should get something which will work for the present.

You are all correct and I agree. This system is overkill and I wouldn't use it to its full potential. I am glad I asked the community before buying these parts. Thank you for your input.

All in all its your choice in the end :) At this point in time, 1150 vs 2011 is a matter of choice, as we do not have enough data about the future to make a 100% accurate decision.. The main thing that puts me off on 2011, is the RAM price and availability, cant have 2x8GB at a good enough price to save 2 slots for 32GB in the future. But anyhoo.. after all this input, this is what your build should look like:

I put in the extra 770, im only guessing you have the MSI TF 770 OC? And that beautiful PSU, which is super reliable, and has more than enough wattage for expansion down the line.

May the force be with you! :D

Thank you all for your input and fast replies.

I am glad I asked the community before buying these parts as I would essentially just be wasting my money on performance I would never use. I will take into account the components you have listed and start constructing a system out of these parts, you have saved me a lot of money, time and sad thoughts :p.

If anyone is still wanting to post a comment feel free, I will read it and will be thankful, I just may not be as fast at replying. It also may benefit somebody else who is going through the same phase.

Please read the smart comments from these people if your going through the same thing and good luck.
Thank you

To be honest i prefer this setup so much more due to the RAM pricing and choice, with 2x8 here, a couple of months down the road you have the option to pick up another 2x8 kit for 32GB of RAM if you need that much for your multitasking.

This machine can take anything you throw at it. And if you want more performance on games, you can get this for now, and next summer when prices drop, pick up a couple of gtx970's for an SLI of that beast of a setud :D

P.S. Don't forget to pick 'best answer' so the thread is marked as solved! :D

P.P.S. you can also shave another 100$ if you get this MOBO (which is also a great mobo)
