Hi
I am going to get the MSI Z97 GAMING 5 motherboard but I also want to get the i5 4690k aswell.
The mobo needs to be version 1.2 to support the i5, if the mobo doesn't come with version 1.2 will I be able to flash the BIOS by USB?
Thanks

Yes I'm currently running an i5-4690K @ 4.7Ghz, 1.265V Vcore with that Gigabyte Z97X-SLI motherboard. The interface is excellent and more than enough for your overclocking needs, especially since Haswell is so easy to overclock. Literally all it takes is upping multiplier and upping Vcore and leaving everything else on auto (except all power savings C-states should be turned off), and you'll be fine for a 4.7Ghz overclock.

Last I checked the Z97 series was made specifically for Devil's Canyon. I don't see why it wouldn't come stock compatible with the i5-4690K.

And no you can't flash the BIOS via USB if the mobo is not compatible with the CPU in the first place (you won't even be able to get into BIOS).

Do you really care about the look of your mobo? Because if you don't you can save quite a bit of money and get the Gigabyte Z97X-SLI which is currently the best-bang-for-your-buck Devil's Canyon mobo. It can be had for as cheap as $99.99

It comes with SLI capability, SataExpress, SataM.2, ability to overclock to 4.7Ghz, and a Realtek ALC1150 high-end audio codec the same one found on the Gaming 5.

Though the Gaming 5 does look better, practical-wise they'll produce identical results.

Thanks for the reply, that motherboard looks really nice and I will get that motherboard instead.
Have you used this motherboard before?
If so, what is the interface like for OCing?
Thanks again for your reply
