1tb verbatim hard drive not being recognised ??

i have a verbatim 1tb external hard drive model 53016 and it is not being recognised by any device. it worked fine for few weeks but then went like this. the blue light comes on , there is no noise from it and the laptop says it is installing the drive software when i plug it in but its not being recognised ? anyone know if this can be fixed ??

Hi there jamie mcguire,

So the drive is making no noises and is not spinning up at all right?
If so, It may be a good idea to start with changing the USB cable(Y type of cable preferably as it will provide more power). You can also check whether the drive is recognized by Disk Management and Device Manager. If the drive is not recognized by Disk Management even with the new USB cable, most probably there is some physical problem whether with the drive itself or its enclosure.
