I was going to get the i5-4690K, but I started thinking of maybe getting the i7-4790. I did a comparison between both on Intel's site, and other than the clock speed, I didn't find any difference. Should I stay with the i5-4690K or should I get the i7-4790? If I get the i5, I will not overclock, but maybe in the future I could.

Solution
i7 4790 is locked the i5 is unlocked and can be overclocked
i7 4790 has more threads

i7 will perform better
but that depends on what you do
if you cant utilize all the threads then it will not make much difference
EDIT:I7 will help in multitasking while you are gaming and running some other process
just for gaming and overclocking i5 4670,4670K,4690,4690K all are best :)

as leeb2013 states, hyperthreading with the i7. (8 threads running versus 4 with the i5, helps in some apps but usually not gaming) If your rig is for gaming and general usage, get the i5.
