Having set up a PC with Raid5 I was unable to get this to work with Windows-7 (drivers not available). So, now I want to use the four half terabyte as none RAID discs.

How do I reformat them?

I have reset the motherboard back from RAID and tried to installed Windows 7 again, but the Windows 7 gives error messages and the PC just keeps making "plip" noises that might be reformatting 2 Terabytes disc, or might be doing anything or nothing!

What raid controller do you have that doesnt have win7 drivers available?
If you're using the motherbds raid then you need to click the link to load additional drivers during the install and manually load the raid drivers that are available on ASrocks site. Heres the win7 64 bit ones: http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/N68C-S%20UCC/?cat=Download&os=Win764

For IDE or AHCI installation:
Do you see the drives in the bios?
What did you set the sata ports to in the bios? IDE? {For best performance you want AHCI if thats an option}
