Bios update? i7 4790k

Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

Would i need a different motherboard or just to download an update?

You'll have to either take it to a shop and ask them to flash it with a cpu it does support or you'll have to buy a cpu it supports. Then flash it then put this CPU in it

The only way youre going to flash the BIOS if the mobo doesnt support it, is if its an ASUS mobo that supports USB BIOS flashback

Since you can flash a BIOS with just a PSU

Other brands dont have this feature. And other brands, the system has to be running to flash a BIOS

to update bios is rather simple in my experiences, all you do is go to the manufacturer of your mobo and find the download for the bios (under software or support, you may have to dig around to find it) after that unzip it if its a zip or extract with winrar what ever you need to get the file on your computer. move the file to a usb and power off and open your bios. when you enter your bios under a tap (it varies depending on the maker) you will see something along the lines of bios update or update. click that and then select your usb it should do the rest for you. some mobo makers i believe gigabyte does this they just have a program that does it for you. i cant tell you for sure though. thats the way i have done it on all my past mobos if you want more detail you can tell us your mobo make and i can help you with more specific details
