I am currently running ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, Intel Core i7-2600K, 4 sticks of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) and a GTX 580.

After some research I believe my video card is what is holding back my computer the most(please tell me if I am wrong lol). Looking for some advice for what to upgrade with the holiday season coming up. I am considering getting the Nvidia 980, and hopefully when they perfect the technology get an monitor capable of G-SYNC.

I appreciate all the comments and feedback!

From ASUS's website, yes it supports SLI. The ASUS STRIX card is pretty good, if you have the clearance go for the Windforce. Since these cards have good cooling, what you can do for the time being if you're just going with 1 for now is you can actually OC the GTX 970 to come VERY close to what the GTX 980 is, ultimately eliminating the need for the GTX 980. Though you will consume a bit more power, your PSU has more than enough. Once OC-ing your GTX 970 doesn't cut it anymore, just get a second GTX 970 and go SLI.

Are you playing games? Are you trying to play newer games or do you still play older games? While yes, getting the GTX 980 would be a substantial upgrade it is quite costly. Have you considered going with a GTX 970 for the time being and then SLI-ing it in a year's time. Would effectively come out to nearly the same price by then and you'll have more power as well. Only issue is that you might need a better PSU depending on what yours is currently rated at.

Wow, I appreciate all the quick responses!

Yes I only play games, and looking to play the newer games coming out! I was reading some conversations on 2x GTX 970s v.s. 1x GTX 980. I read somewhere though that G-SYNC is having an issue with two cards. I know it's a new feature, but can anyone comment on that?

Also what kind of power supply do I need for the 2x GTX 970 and the GTX 980?

Shoot for at least 750W+ if you're gonna go with the SLI option. If you're gonna use just the single GTX 980 then a 600W+ would be fine. While the GTX 970 does say that it uses about 146W, it tests it can show that it goes up to 250W under load. As well as thats just the power rating for the stock/reference cards. Some manufacturers can also up the clock speeds themselves at the factory, in which needs more power.

As for the screen issue, they can always alleviate problems down the road with more software updates so it might be an non-issue by then. Again you do have a choice of just getting 1 GTX 970 now and getting a second later when you need the extra power.

Awesome, I already have a 850W power supply so I am all set there. Now I just need to go and review some benchmarks for 970s! Anyone have a company they like or can recommend a good 970 card to SLI? Also, just came to me now can I SLI on my current motherboard (ASUS P8Z68-V PRO)?
