I have recently RMA'd a radeon 7870 (Powercolor's vortex ii PCS+ edition) due to artifacting and they sent back an r9 270x. I thought "wonderful, back to gaming!" and threw it into my computer, figuratively of course.
At first the card was not detected in device manager, it was described by device manager as a standard VGA graphics adapter. After I installed AMD's latest drivers the card is detected in device manager and everything is smooth at that point.
After the system reboot for the drivers to take effect is when I face a more difficult issue, I get a black screen after the "starting windows" screen. What do I do now?.. I have tried wiping the drivers and re-installing countless times. I get the same results as posted above.
edit: For the sake of you all having extra information, I have found out through my motherboard's board exploring option that my motherboard also sees my graphics card as a VGA compatible adapter.
Also, the card is detected in safe mode after driver install and it will even give me a display on the desktop. Just in safe mode though.
Recent update: Now getting artifacts with and without drivers installed.
