I have a QX6800 that has been running at 85C+ for the past few days. What is the possibility that the cpu has been damaged?

Thank you for your replies. I guess I should explain the situation a bit more.

I bought this pc from a university surplus sale as a "fixer-upper." It originally came with a e6500 and was operating extremely slow while installing Windows 7 (100% cpu usage). I didn't think to check the cpu temps at this points, but I wish I would have. I pulled the heatsink off of the cpu and saw the thermal compound was completely dried up. I dropped the qx6800 in the slot, applied some thermal compound, and swapped the psu for higher powered one to cover the extra power the c2e required. The heatsink wasn't in the best shape and it was difficult to affix to the motherboard, but it seemed like it was on properly, so I booted the computer.

I saw zero performance gains in windows 7. the system ran so slow, that I could not install anything. I eventually reformatted and reinstalled the OS a couple times more until I finally thought to check the cpu temps. After seeing that, I quickly hopped on Newegg and ordered a new heatsink. The new heatsink has not arrived yet. This all happened over the course of a week and the computer was on for at least 30 hours during that time.
