Yesterday, I bought a ASUS M5A78L-M/USB 3 Motherboard (and AMD FX 6300 Processor) and when I put it in my computer, and plugged it in, it turned on, without me pressing the on button, the CPU fan started, then turned off after 5 seconds, and didn't let me turn it back on with the power button. I went from a AMD Athlon II x3 if that's relevant. Any ideas why?

you wanna recheck memory stick is they sit properly,if that didnt help then can be one of the cpu pins bent ,you wanna remove cpu and check if they bent.(and to make sure motherboard have clearance between case better remove motherboard and all parts from the case, place on cardboard ,connect everything and see if it power up.

I'll assume from that, I said something wrong or misunderstood what you said. I should state I'm really new to everything and so the terminology is a weak point. I have the power button switch connected to the motherboard, and the 4/8 power connector in the appropriate slot.
