which is the best processor?

Will be using mostly Linux (Elementary OS and Mint)and occasionally windows on the same. I need a good crisp display without any lags and smooth animations and multimedia on the latop

I own a laptop which is just over 2 yrs old having the A6 processor. Will the intel processors be a good upgrade? The AMD processor, though it says its quad core it is really pathetic in multitasking, which is quite important for me. Also it does not perform good enough for Linux as compared to my core i5 desktop

Also how much is the difference between the i3 and i5 processor? The price difference between the laptops having the i3 and the i5 processor is about 7K INR which is roughly 140 USD. Is it worth the price?

Just FYI, the AMD A6-3420m is a Llano generation APU that was launched a few years ago. It is AMD's 1st generation APU and therefore less powerful than the current Kaveri generation APU and is generally less powerful than the Core i3 / Core i5 when it comes to processing power and graphics performance as well.

The GHz does not really matter very much because the computational capabilities of a CPU or APU is based on how it is designed. The Core i3-4030u runs at 1.9GHz. An AMD Kaveri generation APU would probably need to be clocked a 2.6GHz in order to compete with the Core i3-4030u. A Llano generation APU would probably have to be clocked at 3.1GHz in order to compete with the Core i3-4030u.

4GB is generally sufficient for most...

Thanks,

But i can see both of these processors are dual cores and the clock frequency is also not much of difference, still will that make a huge difference? My current AMD one is quad core but still is quite pathetic whereas multitasking is concerned :??: confuses me a lot. I own a desktop with i5 2nd gen, its quad core and it has a super performance.

Could you list the exact models of those two processors? the i3 and the i5? I was assuming the i5 was a Quad Core but there are dual core models in the mobile sector.

Desktop versions are always much more powerful than their mobile counterparts, this is because the mobile versions are designed to draw less power to extend the laptop's battery life but resulting in lower performance.

Also the AMD APU series are simply inferior compared to Intel's Architecture.

These are the models. I guess the U suggest ultrabooks

Intel® Core™ i5-4210U
Intel® Core™ i3-4030U

Can you help me with these models of laptops also if you can:

This one has the i5

This one with i3

I'd say go with the i3 one, the price diff doesn't make that dual core i5 worthy at all.

What exactly you do when you say "Multitasking"? depending on what it is you might wanna invest more to get a Quad-core laptop...

Also RAM has a profound impact when multitasking, 4GB is quite low for nowadays standards so also consider that, 6-8GB will do wonders for any type of multitasking, gaming etc.

Multitasking, like running bittorent or updating the OS, listening music or watching videos occasionally and browsing net or doing some word processing/programming together. Background processes in linux like Dropbox, system monitor are always running though.

Im not much into gaming on the laptop. I have a desktop for that purpose.

The type of usage you describe is not heavy at all so not really the need of a quad core, from the latest two laptops that have 8GB of RAM I'd say go with the one that it's price is 44,990. The difference between both CPUs are minimal, same goes between their video cards so no reason to pay more.

Thanks Sir,

Do you think for my current usage 4 gigs will be necessary? I can upgrade that later on if required.

4GB is generally sufficient for most people who are not doing anything demanding with their laptops.
