I am currently planning to buy a Gigabyte 980 and a Gigabyte 970. I've always heard that it is possible to SLI two different cards, with the same GPU. The 980 and 970 both have the GM204 GPU, but I am now getting skeptical about the support Can someone explain for me? I *do* know that two manufacturers can be mixed.
Thanks.

No they cannot be SLIed, to SLI you need the same cards. You can however make the 970 physx dedicated, but its useless cause the 980 can handle physx on its own. Anyways if you dont have enough money to buy two GTX 980s, a better option would be to buy two GTX 970, they outperform a single GTX 980
