I need to upgrade my system because at the moment I'm constrained by 4MB RAM and I'm running Photoshop CC which struggles with that. My 5 year old mobo only supports 4MB (although I was told here that a firmware update got rid of that limitation). I also need to upgrade from Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

I only use my PC for office based stuff, browsing and some photo scanning and the aforementioned Photoshop, Lightroom etc. I figure that I don't need a dedicated graphics card for that. So I'm planning to keep my case and drives and replace the mobo/cpu/RAM and PSU. I've been looking at the Intel i5 4590 3.30GHz on a Asus H81M Plus mobo with 8GB Crucial RAM. I don't plan to overclock.

Does that seem ok for my fairly modest needs? My current mobo uses the Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset and I'm assuming that the i5's onboard graphics will be equal or better to what I have?

What size PSU will I need. Currently I have a 350w unit.

Thanks in advance.

Here going for Intel i5 4590 would be an ideal choice. Don't go for AMD if u don't plan to do some intense gaming. Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H would suit better as is a pretty nice mobo at a cheaper price. GO FOR VENGEANCE 8GB(4*4) 1600 MHZ.
any 500w psu either of COOLERMASTER or corsair would do good.

This XFX unit is good(shame the price has gone up, it's sometimes available for less)

As for your PC needs the parts you're going for look like they'll suit you great.

I'm not even sure you'll need to upgrade your 350W PSU if you're just powering an i5+fans/HDD's and no GPU but if you do improve your PSU you can of course upgrade more easily in the future.

Thanks for the advice guys...... really appreciated. I checked out the Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H but here in the uk, its more expensive than the Asus H81M Plus. I might look at other B85 boards though as the 4 DIMM slots might be handy.

Thanks Ashy, I had been looking at B85 boards after your first post. Looks like I would get more DIMMs and more USB slots which is good. I had spotted the Asus B85M-G for £48. Is that a good option compared to the MSI ? I've had good experience of Asus products in the past which is why I'm looking in that direction now. Thanks again.
