I recently got a new graphics card called SAPPHIRE 7950 3G BOOST

I plugged it in correctly and now every time I try to play a game it just crashes instantly and
i have to manually plug in my power cable in and out wait a minute or 2 then restart the pc for me to be able to get back on to it

I have 650W power supply, I don't understand where i have gone wrong. Could anyone please help me as this is for a present for my son and well he is really dissapointed with me

I am intirely sure what the make and model of the PSU is, and yes I plugged in all the cables and what not except the crossfire one as i am only using 1 graphics card.

Where can I find the make and model, On the side of the PSU or?

Most power is on the 12V rail (a good enough assumption for now), so with 40A (although I'm not sure you've got this right) that's 480W to play with. Now one guage of a PSu's quality is how much of its power it can deliver on the 12V rails compared to it's total wattage, 480/650 is not good, good PSU's will be up at 630/650.

You card could be pulling 200W, your CPU is a 95W unit. So that's nearly 300W of your 480W (the 480W is probably overstated. Also given your other symptom of having to pull the PSU cord before you can restart it points to the PSU failing safe (which is lucky as it could have failed unsafe).

So you are looking for a 500-600W PSU, with most of its power at 12V.

Try and stay in Tiers 1&2. I'd suggest you look at shops you're happy to use ( I don't know what country you are from) newegg in the states, ebuyer, scan, overclockers, aria, amazon in the UK, what fits your budget and see where they sit on the list, it's the easiest way around to do it.
