NAS or USB 3.0 for my Wireless AC Netgear R7000?

I just picked up a new wireless ac router, Netgear R7000. It's equipped with gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port. I like having a centralized storage area to access files (HD 1080p movies, pictures, music).

Am I better off attaching a NAS one of the gigabit Ethernet ports or attaching a USB 3.0 external HD to it? Just looking for fast file transfer speeds, and whatever connection is best for streaming movie files to my smart tv.
Thanks.

Here's the NAS I was looking at.

And here is the external hard drive.

I agree. But for very casual use, the cost of dedicated NAS might not be justified. If you use that storage daily, then dedicated hardware is required in my opinion.

Het Epicred, I just bought a r7000 too and I'm in your same situation. Which choice have you made ? Feedback? Can you stream hd movies?
Thanks
