Hello.

The "Windows Store" on my laptop ceased functioning a while ago. I was poking around trying to fix it.

The Windows Store appears to work on the other (non-admin) account, but none of the apps work (they have those black-on-white 'X's).

I ran "wsreset.exe" and I got:
"windows cannot find 'ms-windows-store:purge caches', make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again".

I ran "AppsDiagnostic.diagcab", and got:
"Windows Store cache might be damaged
Windows Store configuration might be damaged"

From here, "http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_store/how-to-fix-windows-cannot-find-ms-windows/a88b796d-30eb-4f6f-9af1-fca09779cf6f?page=1", I tried
"powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml", and got:

I ran "sfc /scannow", and got:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios."

I don't want to loose my installed programs (they are more important than the apps), so I am hoping to avoid refreshing or resetting.

Any ideas about what I should try next?

Why won't MS allow us just to re-install the Windows Store?

Thank you for your time.

"dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" finished, and said that it fixed some things, but the Windows Store still has the same problems.
It flashes open, and then closes, but remains in the task bar. If I click on the task bar icon, it flashes open and green again, but doesn't stay.

I ran both the Microsoft Accounts trouble shooter, and the Windows Store Apps trouble shooter (microsoftaccountdiagnostic.diagcab, AppsDiagnostic.diagcab, apps.diagcab).

From the Windows Store Apps trouble shooter, I received these errors:
1) windows cannot find 'ms-windows-store:purgecaches'
2) Windows Store configuration may be damaged.

As for the instructions found here:
http://immux.blogspot.co.nz/2014/03/solved-blend-hresul...

My registry doesn't look like that. I don't have "\repository\Packages" under "CurrentVersion\AppModel".

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Same problem here, it has been a while. Did you fix it? I'm tempted to upgrade to Windows 10 Preview just to get rid of this problem. It started after an update, if you can uninstall this update (KB3000850) you might fix it.

Nope, I was never able to fix it.
I tried the suggestions from the Microsoft tech support forum, and I tried working with several Microsoft tech support folks, but the only solutions they had at the end where:1) blow away my account and use a different one, and 2) re-install, or reformat.
:p

I have been thinking about trying Win10; is it ready for download?

Yes, that's exactly what I did!

I downloaded the latest Windows 10 Technical Preview (9926) directly from Microsoft. Installed the ISO in a USB drive, launched the executable from the desktop and now Windows Store and several other issues have been resolved. All programs and settings are intact!

Windows 10 is still in beta so you might find some minor bugs, but is way more responsive that a faulty 8.1. Disable your antivirus prior installation to avoid conflicts. And backup important data.

Make sure to "Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps." checked before installing.

Here is an upgrade guide for reference.

Note: My installation failed twice because Avast antivirus was on. Fortunately it reverted back to Windows 8.1 each time, so I'm confident to say it's a safe procedure.

Best luck with that contract!

I read through the contract for the technical preview, and it says that we are not allowed to use the preview after a certain date. Do you know if we are eligible for the free upgrade, or do we have o downgrade back to 8.1 (or are we forced to buy Win10, with the system that the preview it is installed on ransomed until we do).

Windows 10 will be free for 7,8 and 8.1 users. The deal will last for a year. If you have the serial key it shouldn't be a problem. No idea how it's going to work on preloaded laptops that are already upgraded though.
