Xb1 controller not recognized

After installing both the x86 and x64 (each individually) drivers for the xb1 controller, it still comes up as "unknown" device in device manager and I can't use it.

OS: Win7 x64, using a microUSB cable that I know works.

an xbox controller should just plug in and install the driver automatically

mine does

try a different usb port--preferably one thats from the motherboard

Port wasn't an issue, apparently it just needed to reboot the PC, for the second time /confused
