Greetings wise folk of the forum, I'm doing a new Z97 gaming build and I'm at a bit of a loss about which motherboard I should go for. I'm aiming for high end gaming performance, and I am planning to do some moderate overclocking, but nothing extreme. I'd prefer not to spend more than about US$300. Any advice would be appreciated.

The rest of my planned build:

  • Intel i7 4790k
    16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 RAM
    NZXT Kraken X61 CPU cooler
    1tb WD HDD
    Kingston HyperX 240gb SSD
    2x Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming
    Corsair AX860 PSU

Solution
$300 is a allot for a Z97 board.
Even something like an ASUS Z97-A will serve you well, even in getting good overclocks.
You can even step it up to a ASUS Z97-PRO or the HERO as suggested above, if you need more ports and extra stuff.
