Can I plug in a DVI-D on a DVI-I port?

I'm about to use a Dell U2713h on a Palit GTX 970 reference(http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=2406)
Only thing is missing is the 4 pin that the DVI-I has, Will it work and will I get 1440p?

Yes, you can plug a DVI-D male port into a DVI-I female port, but you cannot do the reverse.

Note though, that the dvi cable must be dual link, not single link in order to support your monitor's full 1440p resolution.

The gtx 970 has also mini HDMI and mini display ports. Does it also support a higher resolution?

Provided both the GPU and the monitor (and the cable) support HDMI 1.4, (not 1.3) then yes it supports higher resolutions. Displayport also supports higher resolutions.

That's my understanding, but wait for confirmation.

BTW, I notice that you're using 970 in SLI in 1440p, What's your FPS in BF4 and AC:unity assuming that you play them?

I do have BF4, but haven't played it on this new system yet. I'm on the road right now in Canada (brrr), but I'll load it up next week when I'm back home.

I don't have AC Unity.
