Hi guys, I'm building a PC for the first time for somewhere around $1000, primarily as a workstation but also for gaming and entertainment (1-4 hours a day)

Prices keep on fluctuating and currently the build's over $1000 but I'm hoping after Cyber Monday I can knock of a hundred bucks or so.

I have made a build here (not including the case) >> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CWWvNG
*Something to note is that I already purchased a 1080p 60Hz monitor (It was on sale for $120), but if anyone knows where to get a good 120Hz or more for under $200 or less I could return it.

For the monitor that I have, is the R9 290 wasted? Should I downgrade to the 280x? Also why is the 290 only $269.99?
What would you recommend for the case to fit everything in neatly? If you also have any alternatives to any of that listed in the build for about the same price, please include a link and explain why so that I can understand (not a very techy-guy)

EDIT: Replaced the Intel i5-4690 with its unlocked counterpart 4690K, replaced MSI Z97 mobo with the Asus Z97-A

Mostly I will be working simply on spreadsheets and powerpoints, and some light business-related software. I will also be using it for beginner coding, as well as video editing and occasional graphic designing in my spare time.

That 'K' would be helpful in video editing.

I currently have a monitor that is only 60Hz so I feel a GTX 970 would not be used anywhere near to its full capability.
Also, what would I be missing out on if I go for a Micro ATX mobo instead of a standard ATX?
Lastly, shouldn't the 650W psu better for the build rather than the 520W you posted?

500W is enough this would at full load would barely use around 400W.
Well you cannot do 3-WAY SLI or CFX in a mATX build. And in this case you cannot do SLI,CFX is possible.
No, 970 would be used at full-capacity you just won't see more than 60fps unless you turn V-Sync off.
