Best Graphics Card for my price range?

I have a £250 ($390) price range to buy a graphics card as an upgrade for my PC. I want to mainly play games and record gameplay; as well as video editing and rendering.

What is the best possible graphics card that I can get?

(I originally had the Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC Graphics Card set out but I'm wondering if theres anything better?)

A GTX 970 is the best thing right at the top of your budget.

MSI R9 290x comes in at just under £250 and will max out pretty much any game. Or there's always the GTX 770 on nvidia's side or if you save a little more you could get a gtx 970 which is very new to market and only about £270-£300.
