Hello Community,

Quick question, is it possible to repair/replace a hard drive in a RAID 5 configuration without having to power down the server?

I am familiar with shutting down the server and swapping the drive and powering it back up, going into the RAID utility, and importing foreign config. But in a production build i am wondering if its doable without having to shut it down.

If so what application is used?

Depends on the server and the controller. Most servers, you just hot swap and it takes care of rebuilding, as long as the replacement drive is completely blank. Some require specifically telling the controller to rebuild to that drive, which requires a reboot and going into the BIOS control panel. What server and controller do you have?
