Hello bros,

Specs:

intel core i7 4790k non oc'd.
8 gb (2x4gb) crucial baliistix sport ddr3 1600 ram
gigabyte z97x gaming 7 mobo
gigabyte gtx 970 windforce (non g1 edition) oc'd to 1400 mhz
evga supernova 750 watt g2 gold 80+
and for storage i'm just running on various ssd's like the toshiba q series and intel 530 series.

I've noticed some odd behavior with stuttering. In World of Warcraft i get some strange occurances:

1) ~.5 second stutter when i tab or click on other players, nps, objects etc. This doesn't happen every single time, but if i had to guess it would be around 40% of the time,s o it's starting to get rather annoying.
2) ~.5 second stutter between zones ( so like, on flight paths crossing between zones, or just travel in general)

3) my authentification "success" screen takes ~20 seconds to complete from time to time. Other times it runs straight through the process with little to no delay at all.

4) ~.5 second stutter when world obectives are completed (battleground flag capures, achievement unlocks, etc)

Here's what i've tried so far:

1) Complete fresh install of the game.
2) Checked drivers (all are current)
3) Uninstalled all add-ons (i run rather light anyway, but i did this just to make sure)
4) tried running the game without any oc's.
5) disabled security software
6) deleted cache/wtf folders
7) tried game with/without vsync (no change either way)
8) tested internet usage during gaming and speed. (everything is right where it should be)
9) scanned for viruses/malware.(completely clean)

I'm running the game in full screen mode. Someone suggested switching to windowed mode, then switching back helped their situation, but i really don't see how that would affect me, though i'll probably try it tonight. I've done a few searches to see if anyone else with my gpu/similar set up is having this issues, and while some people complained of micro stuttering in games, most of those guys have sli configs and are playing different games. Is there other stuff i'm missing here? Anyone else been having these issues? I've talked to a few other people i know who play, and they claim to have no issues, but that's likely anecdotal.

I should mention that i haven't noticde these stuttering issues in other games outside of very, very rare occurances, which leads me to believe that wow just isn't optimized for high-ish end systems, but i refuse to believe that there isn't a fix. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Solution

Hey there.

I ultimately ended up doing that last week. That happened to fix the issue for me. I'm not exactly sure what the issue was on that particular drive, but once i reinstalled onto my other drive everything worked fine. Still a stutter between crossing zones here and there, but much better overall.

I completely forgot to update this particular thread. Sorry about that.

Im running:
intel core i5 4690k
8gb gskill ram
asus maximus vii hero mb
asus gtx 970 strix
evga 750w g2 psu

Almost identical build, same problem as well. Although I only received my gpu today so I have not done much tinkering. Please update me if you get any info!!

UPDATE:
Okay so after sitting down and messing with my in game settings a bit I realized that wasn't the issue. I had the stutter whether I played on ultra or low. A quick BIOS update did the trick for me it seems. I have not played too much on the updated BIOS but I have been stutter free for about 30min now. Hope this helps! I'll check back in a day or two and post whether or not the stutter has come back.

Ran the game after the recent driver update. Game seems to stutter a *little* less, but that could be placebo. I also tried adjusting my refresh rate to see if lowering it would help at all, and it has not. The problem persists. I am actually ready to throw in the towel because i haven't seen anything n the way of a solution. Just anecdotal bandaid fixes. If anyone has any suggestions that i have not already tried, please, help mehhh!

So my issue i believe was related to my SSD. I decided to unintal WoW from one drive and move it another. The problem seems to be fixed for now. Aside from a small stutter between zones on rare occassions, i haven't had any issues. The drive itself was healthy, no malware or viruses, but evn acter formatting it time and time again, it didn't play nice with WoW. Post here if you need help trouble shooting. Thanks!
